Proposed development threatens Balzan village core

I would like to show my support for what was stated by Carmel Bezzina and echo his concern regarding the proposed development in Main Street, Balzan (The Sunday Times, May 30).

I am one of the numerous Balzan residents Mr Bezzina refers to in his letter who have the preservation of this historical village very much at heart.

This development would mean the destruction of townscape features as well as open spaces and gardens which characterise this village and make it so idyllic.

In this day and age, when modern buildings and financially driven development seem to be overtaking our little havens of tranquillity, I feel we need to protect what is left of our quaint villages. I therefore call upon the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to ensure that this village of ours, which we love and are so proud of, is protected by rejecting this application outright.
