I was surprised to read Vincent Palmier's letter (The Sunday Times, June 13) about receiving Holy Communion on the tongue.

Is it still possible for a person to call himself a Christian and refuse Holy Communion, once, twice and maybe even more times, just because he wants to have it his way and receive the Host on the tongue and not in his hands, and insists on disobeying the priest's orders?

This is pure disobedience, obstinacy and lack of respect. Is it such a great inconvenience, hardship, or whatever, to receive Holy Communion in the hand?

Speaking for myself, I am quite willing to obey, even if I am asked to kneel down to receive Holy Communion. After all, distributing the Host in the hand is just a precaution against the spread of disease.

And Mr Palmier had the cheek to call the parish priest and some of the clergy hard-headed. What a shame!
