The Westin Dragonara Resort, part of Starwood hotels and resorts chain, is continuously looking into new areas to reduce the carbon footprint.
The hotel has recently set up a Green Council, made up of a number of associates. It has implemented projects like the 'Green Room', the reverse osmosis plant, in-house waste separation, paper recycling, power factor corrector and energy saving lighting and appliances.
This year the company will also be investing in new energy and water saving equipment. Starwood hotels and resorts have been working over the past 18 months to reduce their environmental impact.
Earlier this year, Starwood opened the 1,000th property and are now represented in nearly 100 countries. This year they plan to open around 80 hotels in rapidly growing markets. Ambitious yet achievable goals have been set to reduce the use of energy and water.
By 2020, Starwood plan to reduce energy and water consumption by 30 per cent and 20 per cent per available room respectively.
