Gozo College Nadur Primary School has been awarded the Green Flag Award.
This is an international recognition awarded to eco-schools that promote an environmental and sustainable developmental education in their schools.
The Eco Schools programme was launched in Malta in 2002 by Nature Trust as the Malta representative of FEE.
It is now being run in more than 100 schools in Malta and Gozo, making it one of the biggest and most successful environmental programmes in the Maltese Islands
The Ekoskola is about empowering students in the running of this programme, ensuring that the Maltese islands would have more responsible citizens in future.
It aims to raise students’ awareness of sustainable development issues thought classroom study and community action.
The Gozo College Nadur Primary EkoSkola committee, formed by the majority of children and including members of the staff and the local community, strived day in day out to promote environmental and healthy habits for all the school community.
Last year, Gozo College Nadur Primary was rewarded by the Silver Award for its incessant green initiatives
The Green Flag will be officially presented to the school later this year. It will be flown on their school as an international symbol that the school has reached the international level in environmental education criteria.
