The blue flag was today raised on the Bugibba perched beach, which is situated opposite the Dolmen Hotel.

The flag, a sign of quality showing that the beach has good quality water, facilities and management, was raised by the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Mario de Marco.

The Bugibba perched beach is Malta’s second blue flag beach following that of St George’s Bay which was awarded the flag last year.

Another three beaches - Ramla in Gozo, Ghadira and Golden Sands were recognised high quality beached, which was just a step away from the blue flag award.

Dr de Marco said that one had to get away from the misconception that only sandy beaches could be blue flag. There were rocky beaches in Malta which should be worked upon to get the blue flag label.
