According to the latest five-yearly European Health Interview Survey of 2008, high blood pressure was prevalent in 22 per cent of Maltese people. Far removed down in second place were heart attacks and coronary disease at three per cent each and stroke at one per cent.

The information was given by Health Minister Joseph Cassar in reply to a parliamentary question by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL).
