Italian company CON.NEXO' Group, an IT consultancy firm, has moved its head office operations to Malta, after first opening an office here last August.

CON.NEXO' Group was established in Italy in 2004 and, as a result of year on year growth, has expanded its operations and services to include four countries in Europe and intends to open offices in the UK and South America in 2011.

Malta was chosen as the preferred location for a head office due to its ability to provide a market of people with a high level of skills as well as the assistance provided by the government through Malta Enterprise.

Roberto Portelli, CON.NEXO' Group's managing director, told The Times Business: "Malta has proved to be the ideal location to set up our operations, providing us with access for growth in Europe, Middle East, the Americas as well as China."

CON.NEXO' Group was established in Italy in June 2004 as an IT consultancy firm providing quality and innovative solutions with specialisation in the development and management of ICT systems.

Following a conference set up in Milan by Malta Enterprise in March 2009, the company decided to establish its head office operations from Malta.

"The high level of academic and technical skills available on the island was unrivalled by other countries that were being taken into consideration. In addition, the technical infrastructure available on the island was quite stable. Being fluent in both English and Italian, close to Italy and having lovely weather were assets that also put Malta in good stead," the company said.

In five years Con.Nexo's revenue has grown from €1.54 million to €12 million. In June 2009 CON.NEXO' received a special mention at the Innovation National Award by the President of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano. Companies were evaluated for their excellence in process and product innovation, strategic and technological innovation, as well as business model innovation.

"At the heart of this success is a team of professional individuals that are highly trained and experienced to provide a vast range of expertise in the delivery of high quality IT solutions. The company provides support for mission critical application management systems. It has partnered with Oracle and today is one of their largest partners in Italy providing consultancy to large multinational companies for systems based on ERP Oracle e-Business Suite, J.D. Edwards as well as SAP management.

"iCube+ was developed for the Italian army as a unique platform for their communications and it has a NATO security certification. Over the past 10 years, the product has been re-engineered and rebranded and today has evolved into a solution for unified communication and collaboration providing full management of extended communication processes.

"Whereas traditional companies have to deal with a number of methods to send out their various communication needs, iCube+ eliminates these repetitive processes. The product provides a unique platform that delivers and records all company communication transactions in a historical manner, viewed by company or individual, with a drill down facility to identify the various methods of communication related to that particular company or individual, in other words a real CRM solution. In addition, the product provides work-flow functionality, documentation and search capabilities," the company said.

The research and development arm for this project is now in Malta, the company added.

The CON.NEXO' head office will be officially opened by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech on Tuesday at an event attended by directors and staff from the company's offices in Italy, Switzerland and The Netherlands as well as a number of clients, most of which are large multinational organisations.
