A mother has forgiven her daughter for stealing gold jewellery from her in order to buy drugs.

The mother testified during the arraignment of her 30-year-old daughter from Siġġiewi, saying she forgave her and never wanted the theft to end up in court.

The woman, a drug addict who shares a house with her mother, admitted in court to taking the jewellery items last month and this month.

In the circumstances, Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit handed down a two-year probationary period to help the woman deal with her drug addiction.

Police Inspector Sandra Zammit prosecuted.
