Barman admits hiding gun in Il-Bona murder
The barman of Marsaxlokk Nationalist Party Club on the day that Anthony Borg Il-Bona was murdered in Marsaxlokk has admitted in court to having hidden the gun allegedly used in the murder and having given the police false information.
Paul Borg, 55 of Zabbar, was condemned to 14 months imprisonment suspended for three years and interdicted for 10 years after the court said that the case was very serious.
It also noted, however, that the accused had himself after a few days consigned the weapon to the police and admitted his guilty in an early stage of the proceedings against him.

@Melvyn Mifsud Who said that the mortal sin was impossed by the PN? Obviously the PN never finds it fit to applogise, bring some excuse or other. Applogies are only expected from the PL, so it seems.

Kemm hawn nies injoranti f'dan il-pajjiz...allura issa kull kriminal li nqabad nibdew naraw jekk hux blu jew ahmar u niggudikaw min huma n-nies vjolenti fuq dan il-principju....vera nies injoranti u ta livell degradanti. U x'ghandu x'jaqsam Mons.Gonzi u l-interdett tas-sittinijiet...ma dan il-qtil....imbaghad din l-arma wara xi granet spiccat xorta f'idejn il-pulizija u ma sarx frame up bhal fil-qtil ta Raymond Caruana...meta l-arma spiccat ghax persuna li ma kellu xejn x'jaqsam mal-kaz.
Jekk kull darba noqghodu nsemmu l-passat mhux ser nimmaturaw politikament f'dan il-pajjiz...dinir-rabja ta certu nies mhix biss hazina imma wkoll perikoluza u ghalhekk nitlob lil Partiti u l-istazzjonijiet taghhom biex jirrangaw it-ton u jqisu kliemhom biex ma jkunux responsabli ta mibeghda bla sens li tpoggi l-pajjizna fl-istat li kien fit-80's...Ejjew naghtu lil uliedna futur ahjar u mhux nizirghu fil-poplu taghna l-mibeghda.

The imposition of mortal sin was not the doing of the Nationalist Party - and thus the latter have no apology to make on this score.
This doing and eventual undoing was the sole prerogative of the Church authoritees,
But the Church may seem to have suffered eventually, when Labour Party was returned to power - can one forge an indirect link, when some supporters let their anger loose and went on on a rampage. The 80's Floriana Curia incident, was totally out of place in a democracy and in very bad taste to say the least.
And this should be stated by one and all.

@Melvyn Mifsud.
And what about an apology (also unconditional) when the PN was conspicuous by its silence when Archbishop Gonzi imposed immortal sin , in the 60's , on the supporters of Mintoff?
Peter Bonnici

The PN was as silent as Labour was in 1942 if it comes to that. Read some history.
Anyway the question here is violence. The PN has nothing to be ashamed of. Remember it was Alfred Sant who decided to do away with the violent element in the labour party (implying an admission) but only because it had become a noose tied around labour's neck.

Any apology forthcoming from the present leadership of the Labour Party leadership has too be unconditional - not shaded by any grey area of doubt.
If so, it is to be commended. Better late than never. This was not forthcoming during the days of Government.
One must appreciate that in the 70's and 80's the same Labour Party was at the helm of the Government - with an obligation to restrain any violence and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In this regard, the state failed miserably - starting off on the wrong foot. In it's very early days - post 1971 elections and Indpependence celebrations - so called clebrations. These were a blueprint for the years to come.
If only the Government of the day employed it right forces to restore law and order - it would have been such a nicer place to live .
Well - being members of Europen Union is our guarnatee that nobody would even dare to allow our country to stoop so low in the pits.

I refer to the alleged incident where arms where found int the PN Dar Centrali - could anyone enlighten me as to whether any Court conviction ever ensued regarding the same.
Personally, I do not recall one - I do not even recall any prosecution on this matter.
Which goes to say that the allegation had no legal basis.
Was Malta burning then - but the perpetrators definitlely were on the other side of the fence.
Thank God those days are over - it was not only a question of just a Black Monday ...but a black Monday to Sunday, all inclusive.
Except for a bright ray of hope on a Sunday afternoon where we met up in great masses hoping for a better future - rallying behind one issue or another . Led on by the inimitable leader who believed in passive resistance and national reconciiation.
Who proposed dialogue as a reply to violence - even when violence was not only at his own doorstep. But when violence trespassed that .
His foresight, political conviction and perseverance proved right - leading him on to earn the greatest of titles.
The Father of European Malta.
Thank you ... EFA.
