Madis Boy wins Prix de Vincennes final at Marsa
Three victories for Camilleri
Madis Boy stole the limelight at the Marsa Racecourse yesterday after placing first in the final of the Prix de Vincennes, the SECF-backed championship reserved for French trotters in the Premier category.
Five races in yesterday's all-trotting programme, on the 2,140m distance, were finals for French horses. Yesterday's meeting was the last to be held on a Sunday this season. It turned out to be a memorable afternoon for Charles Camilleri who won three of the five finals contested.
Of the six trotters that started the Premier Prix de Vincennes final, five finished the race and one was disqualified. It was disappointing to see that only five trotters made it to the finish line but, on the bright side, the finale was quite exciting as the horses dashed closely together.
Victory went to Madis Boy, driven by Camilleri, which led for most of the distance. It was followed past the post by Liosco Atout and Marini Du Mont in that order.
Camilleri drove Kojak d'Isques to victory in the Gold Prix d'Enghien after the latter began to increase its pace some 400m from the end. Nevertheless, Kojak d'Isques had to go all out in the final metres to fend off the challenge of second horse in, My Danover. Lucky D'Hercla was third.
In the Silver Prix de Cabourg final, Nevermind, driven by Rodney Gatt, recorded its fifth win on the trot. This trotter initiated its final attack 300m from the end to go on and win easily by four lengths from Notello de Brival. Kanter Speed had to settle for third place.
November Oaks, under the control of Camilleri, surprised one and all along the final straight to snatch victory in the Bronze Prix de Cagnes sur Mer. Nereus Galby and Moustique Rose followed in that order.
The Copper Prix de Caen final produced a tight finish involving six trotters. It was Noel Baldacchino's Matin Du Loir that darted past the post first but this horse was eventually disqualified. First place was awarded to Paul Gauci's Jeu De Mots.
Loulou De La Rose and Kenor Celeste were second and third respectively.
