The product as protagonist

Carlo Schembri was recently appointed art director and interior designer of Domestica's new showroom. Following the completion of the main structure, designed by Italian architect Enzo Eusebi, Mr Schembri will handle the interior design and the finishing of the four-storey showroom.

"At face value, the showroom is an eye-catching structure and a stunning architectural project, but the real protagonist will be the displayed product," explains Mr Schembri.

The finishing touches reflect the trends in showroom design, which are taking centrestage - raw and basic, allowing the final product to shine. Mr Schembri shares his time between his work in Malta and his office in Milan, a breeding ground for innovation, design, ideas and experience. Mr Schembri was also entrusted with proposing a number of new brands.

The showroom will also include a custom lab, an interesting section for clients who seek a customised solution, where they will meet with technical members of staff. The layout of the showroom is in line with that of a home, with ground floor taking up the central living space.

Outdoor living is the starting theme for the first three months - outdoor living brands and products will complement the major concept of theshowroom.

"The showroom will be an eventful venue and a hive of activity. We are about to breathe new life into this new space." The showroom was opened by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi on June 4.
