Cruising with flair
The new 2010 Sun Odyssey 42DS, designed with the sailor in mind, was launched recently. Having a contemporary style, Jeanneau's 42 Deck Saloon is a sturdy and spacious yacht.
Signature eagle-eye windows and sculptured deck lines set apart Jeanneau's new 42DS. While 'DS' stands for 'Deck Saloon', the acronym could also mean 'designer series'.
The yacht comes with two double cabins, each with ensuites, with in-mast furling and a 120 per cent genoa. There is a large cockpit as well as ample room for dining.
There are twin wheels for a good view forward and a walkthrough transom. Water lovers will welcome the open transom leading down to the sea, which also assists with collecting guests and provisioning.
Below decks, one will find a large U-shaped galley located to starboard, which, besides having a big capacity for all needs, is functional and features a huge fridge, twin sinks and a deluxe stove.
There is also a saloon and fresh air from 10 opening hatches. A comfortable settee to port can be used as an impromptu bed or, more likely, a sea berth. A traditional fully equipped chart table and navigation area complements the area for all cruising equipment and literature.
The owner's aft master cabinhas a king size bed, plenty of storage and hanging lockers and even his and hers two-seater loungers flanking the bed. Clever lighting, luxurious fittings and space give this cabin a true 'suite' feeling. The forward cabin also includes a private ensuite, vanity area and additional comforts and conveniences.
The new Jeanneau 42Ds is built to category 'A', certified for eight people in open seas, capable of handling wind and waves greater than gale force 9. The standard set-up includes a 2.2m L-shaped keel, a 54hp engine capable of cruising over nine knots when the wind dies.
Jeanneau are exclusively represented in Malta by FL Yachting Ltd.
