The Labour Party has welcomed the sports project that has been announced for the White Rocks complex saying it was all for new, productive and environmentally sustainable investment.

In a joint statement, spokesmen Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, Evarist Bartolo and Chris Agius said that there were a number of points they would like cleared and invited the Prime Minister to make a Parliamentary statement on the project on Monday giving more details and answering questions about the project.

A main property in Malta, the complex had been left abandoned for the past 15 years in spite of another three project promises, they said.

They said it seemed the new project would have an element of sports facilities which the country needed and hoped there would be active consultation with sports organisation.

They also hoped that the sports element would not be relegated to a secondary role with the main aim of the project being a speculative one centred on the building of more property.

The PL believed in major public projects, especially on public land, but the process had to be transparent, open and competitive, they said.
