A taxi driver was this morning an eight months jail term suspended for two years for helping himself to a Prada purse belonging to a client, just 15 minutes after she landed at Malta International Airport.
Stephen Galea, 31, of Qormi, had pleaded not guilty to the theft but CCTV footage taken from airport cameras had shown him fiddling with the client’s handbag before placing it in the boot of the car.
A frequent visitor, former Cosmopolitan editor Marcelle D'Argy-Smith had told the court she left her handbag next to the driver as she trusted the Maltese.
But after a few hours at her Sliema apartment she realised her purse and her mobile phone had gone missing.
