A couple were this afternoon remanded in custody after they pleaded not guilty of defrauding Norse Management International (Malta) Ltd of €300,000 between 2008 and last year.

Gemma Bernice Cassar, 41, of St Julian’s and her partner Johannes Dahlback, 36, also pleaded not guilty to money laundering.

Defence lawyer Noel Cutajar noted that the couple should be granted bail as there would not be any tampering of evidence since there already was a pending civil case against the couple.

But Steve Tonna Lowell, the lawyer appearing for the company, told the court that the injured party had never testified in the case and that certain witnesses in the civil case would not be allowed by law to testify in criminal action.
