2,090 heart surgeries in six months
Between October 2009 and March 2010 there were a total of 2,090 heart surgeries performed at Mater Dei Hospital, Health Minister Joseph Cassar said in reply to a parliamentary question by Ċensu Galea (PN).
The surgeries included coronary angiograms, percutaneous coronary interventions, coronary artery bypasses and valve replacements.
The greatest number of surgeries performed in any month, 409, had been in March.
