With reference to the parliamentary report on Heritage Malta and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage estimates, which appeared yesterday, it was reported that Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco said that urgent restoration works amounting to €2 million had been carried out on Fort St Angelo last year. The report may have given the impression that the works had been completed.

It must be clarified that what Dr de Marco said was that almost €2 million had been voted for urgent restoration works on Fort St Angelo and that works in this respect had commenced. The works were not yet complete.

He also said that the Office of the Prime Minister, together with Heritage Malta, was preparing an application for European funds to affect a more comprehensive restoration of Fort St Angelo that would enable it to be promoted as one of Malta's main attractions.
