World Cup winner Mauro Camoranesi was back in training yesterday for the first time since injuring his knee as Italy held their opening practice session just hours after arriving in South Africa.

Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo, who has a calf strain, was unable to make it out onto the pitch at Southdowns College, just south of Pretoria.

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio did only some light running up and down the touchline while the rest of the squad warmed up together.

Then Camoranesi, who was hurt on June 1, was taken away from the group to test out his left knee in a series of turns and shots.

Reigning champions Italy are in Group F with Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia. They open their campaign on June 14 against the South Americans.
