This event will gather representatives of user-SME associations, of the space community, as well as European and national policy makers, with the objective of consolidating political support for an increased access of SMEs to satellite information and services, in order to stimulate SME competitiveness in sectors such as transport, building, utilities, energy, and others. In particular, the event aims to create political consensus on a roadmap of concrete actions to enable SMEs from sectors different from space to use satellite information and service, and thus profit from European investments in space.

July 1, Workshop on Societal Security Research and Development, Brussels

The focus of this workshop will be to broadly look at the societal dimension of security research, and at how to mainstream these aspects into security research activities. Some 50 invited experts will meet to discuss different aspects of societal security and how well on-going research activities in societal security are matching the needs, lessons learnt until now, and identified gaps. Discussions on how to address the gaps and research needs in societal security R&D in the future (both in short and longer term) in these areas will be held during the workshop.

Crowdsourcing is the phenomenon where an online population provides the bulk of the content for a website. Encouraged by the expansion of Web 2.0 and social networking, crowdsourcing has become an industry in its own right. Enterprise crowdsourcing poses interesting challenges for both academic and industrial research along with its social, legal, and technological dimensions. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners to facilitate stimulating discussions on the different aspects of crowdsourcing. The workshop will also seek to better understand emerging business models and opportunities, while identifying how existing business processes can most efficiently adopt the crowdsourcing model.
