Short power cut caused by fault at Delimara plant
A short power cut in several areas of Malta and Gozo this morning was caused when the cooling water pump of the combined turbine at Delimara power station tripped at around 9.15 a.m., a spokesman for Enemalta said.
The spokesman said that the power cut lasted five minutes at Marsascala and the Freeport and 15 to 20 minutes in other parts of the country including Naxxar, Attard, Bugibba, Mosta and parts of Gozo.

@ J. Farrugia Dear Mr. Farrugia, that 30% increase in electricty prices if diesel is used instead of HFO for the Delimara extension, is a figment of Minister Fenech's imagination to put it kindly. As the extension can produce less than half our needs with Marsa switched off, the price increase would really be 15% for you and me. Not even the promised Smart meters will be able to distinguish between the units coming from the extension and the units coming from present Delimara. And if the complicated pollution removal equipment is left out--diesel does not need it-- the extension will be up and running much quicker.

I believe the power-cuts are being triggered on purpose so the people get fed up and will start to ask desperately for the new power station.....and like this they will forget all the smell there is in the contract for the new power station

Totally agree with you, these power cuts have started only after the auditor found No HARD evidence of Corruption and not No corruption of the new power stations contract. I think this is a plan to annoy the people to start saying that we really need it and we don’t care to be the ginny pigs of this company.
Why not pass a cable to Sicily; if I’m not wrong it was going to be subsidized, if we didn’t ruin everything again because of incompetence.

What....another power failure! Malta's Electricity generating system seems to be falling to bits......and Ministers like Tonio Fenech come up with new projects that require more electricity......do such people really know what they are doing?

I'm starting to believe the power-cuts are being triggered on purpose! All of a sudden in the past year we had a surge in the number of power-cuts!

Yes it is getting ridiculous. While the government is doing all it can to built the Delimara Power station extension which is badly needed for our sake and for our economy's sake, the opposition is still chattering for inquiries, resignations, re-planning, rescinding the contracts...... And the people remain without electricity. Let the work start immediately. Let's have electricity and more power generation at all costs, as long as the bills dont increase by 30% more than they already are.

J Farrugia The Opposition is DEFENDING us against the arrogant Gonezi who want to poison us with the use of HFO when he can use diesel or gas. That is what the Opposition is protesting against not the extension. As regards the contract why doesn't Gonezi want to hold an independent public inquiry led by a Magistrate? What and how mush is there to hide?

why didn't your beloved Joseph and evarist go to the Commissioner themselves? ovvja hux... because there will be no political mileage gained out of it?
basta il PL jaghmel l investigazzjonijiet u sensiela fuq l orizzont, u Evarist ghadu jhuf l hemm u l hawn... lahaq engineer issa alla jbierek ukoll.. imeri l engineers tal enemalta...
it shows that they do not have faith in the auditor general because they keep on finding information for him instead of leaving him do an independent enquiry... and nothwitstanding a whole year of "investigations" nothing concrete was found..
again i ask, why didn't the PL go to the police themselves?
if it was really DEFENDING us, it would go to the commissioner and not try to gain mileage by political spinning...
