Paola wartime shelter handed to NGO

A wartime shelter in Paola has been handed Fondazzjoni Wirt Paola to help it in its efforts to promote the cultural heritage of the locality.

The handing over was made by Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, who is responsible for lands.

The ceremony, this morning, was attended by schoolchildren from Paola primary.

Dr Azzopardi pointed out that this was the 12th devolution of property to NGOs this year.

The handing-over came on the eve of the seventieth anniversary of the start of the second world war in Malta.

Dr Azzopardi praised non-governemnt organisations for their work in the community. He also praised the schoolchildren, who had prepared charts and projects about Paola's cultural heritage.

The ceremony was held near one of the entrances of the shelter at Santa Ubaldeska Square, which was recently embellished.
