Danica Bonello Spiteri and Keith Galea attained commendable results when taking part in international competitions in Spain and the UK recently.
Bonello Spiteri won her age-group category (25-29) and finished fifth overall among 61 'age group' triathletes in the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Series, held in Casa de Campo Park, Madrid on Saturday.
She covered the Olympic distance (swim: 1,500m; bike: 40km; run: 10km), held in very hot conditions and over a hilly and highly technical cycle course, in a time of 2hrs 31mins.
Thanks to this result, Bonello Spiteri has qualified for the final Triathlon ITU 'Age Group' World Championship scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary, in September.
Galea participated in the Ashbourne Duathlon a few weeks back. This race was part of the UK Duathlon Series and attracted the best athletes in Britain.
The race, which consisted of a 12km run, followed by a cycle of 40km and finishing with another run of 4km, was held in the picturesque surroundings of Carsington Water, Nr Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
Galea finished third in his age-group (20-24) and 14th overall in a time of 2hrs 16mins.
The Malta triathlete also took part in the 17km Wolvey cycling time trial.
He managed the best ever time trial of his career, finishing eighth among 60 participants, in a time of 24mins 10secs, averaging a speed of 42.2km/hr on the course.
