Marsa CC win series 3-0

Last week, Marsa CC played the final game against the Royal Horse Artillery, a 20-over in which the home side batted first and again produced a below-par score.

Will Nichols topped the leaderboard with 16 runs and three batsmen, Chris Naudi, Mark G. Sacco and Tony Azzopardi, scored 12 each.

Marsa could only manage a mere 87 runs from their overs as Luke Turrell again caused havoc among the batsmen, taking five wickets and pushing his personal tally to ten in three games.

All seemed lost but Marsa bowled incredibly well and made up for their batting woes by keeping the tourists at bay. The Royal Horse Artillery team totalled a modest 74 runs. Tony Slater and Sarfraz Ali were the main wicket-takers for the hosts with two each.

Marsa won the series 3-0.

On Friday, Marsa play hosts to Saracens Riffs CC in a 20-over game, starting at 3.30 p.m. A 40-over game will be played on Saturday, starting at 10.30 a.m.

To keep in shape, the Chairman's XI played against the Captains XI in a 30-over game at Marsa, on Saturday.

The Chairman's team batted first with Nowell Khosla opening the batting and top-scoring for his side with 41 runs.

Sarfraz Ali, the other opener, was run out for 11 runs. Will Nichols was also run out after a mix-up, making no runs.

Ronnie Sacco played an interesting innings worth 39 runs not out and team-mate Chris Naudi chipped in with another 31 as the Chairman's team totalled 157 runs.

In reply, the Captains XI fell short by 28 runs despite the superb innings of Malcolm Crabbe who was 52 runs not out and his tally included four 4s. Unfortunately for the side, no team-mate could last the distance alongside Crabbe for the win.

Robert Krishna, nine, Mike Caruana, 13, and Joy Ghoseroy, 28, were the main contributors.

Meanwhile, Malta Cricket announced that the Summer League will be starting towards the end of June. One may obtain more details by contacting secretary@maltacricket.biz.
