Serbia's aim is to go a long way having finished top of its qualifying group but even a win would be welcome after a disastrous campaign last time round.
The team goes into battle alone this time having appeared as Serbia and Montenegro in the last tournament, though the majority of the squad were actually Serbian and will earnestly be hoping they have more success against group rivals Australia, Ghana and Germany.
"Football is a simple game and if you have balance in the squad then you can get results," said coach Radomir Antic.
"We have a balanced team and are looking forward to the challenge."
