Views of an archaeologist
The next cultural presentation organised by Din l-Art Ħelwa on Thursday June 10 will allow participants to embark on a journey of discovery in the world of archaeology with Nicholas Vella.
Dr Vella spent many summers in Xemxija, exploring holes and disappearing into caves long before he realised that archaeology would turn him into an underpaid professional. Between 1990 and 1998 he read for two degrees in archaeology, as an undergraduate in Malta and as a doctoral student in Bristol (UK). After a stint in Rome, he returned to Malta where he joined the Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University. He has been teaching ever since in his role as senior lecturer in archaeology.
Dr Vella is also very active supervising research, both desk-based and in the field.
In the lecture, which starts at 6 p.m. at the Judge Caruana Curran Hall at 133, Melita St, Valletta, he intends to explain how archaeologists can weave together a history of the Maltese landscape by considering the many strands of material evidence.
Admission is free of charge but donations to Din l-Art Ħelwa restoration projects would be appreciated.
