YWCA Malta recently held an evening of classic Spanish music and Flamenco at the City Theatre, Valletta.
A performance was given by Spanish-based dance company Producciones Sonakay under the direction of Maltese artist Sharon Sapienza.
The evening offered the public an opportunity to experience the elegance and passion of Flamenco. The programme covered dances from the Bolero school, 18th century Spanish dance, as well as the Tango.
An art exhibition was held in the foyer, and tapas and Spanish wine were served at a reception following the performance.
YWCA Malta commissioned this event in support of the association's self development programme (SDP). The goals of the programme are basic education and vocational life skills. YWCA takes into consideration the difficulties encountered by individuals from different minority groups.
People experiencing poverty and social exclusion are particularly vulnerable and the mission of YWCA Malta is to reach out to young girls and women and empower them with skills that relate to their talents and help them build more self-confidence, acquire self-esteem, open up more opportunities in the labour market and improve their standard of living in general. The courses are given free of charge.
