Betty Berry, who has retired as manager of the Gozo SPCA rescue and rehoming centre, was recently presented with a painting by SPCA chairman Joseph Camilleri on behalf of friends and supporters.

During the presentation, held during the annual general meeting, Ms Berry spoke of her disappointment that the site earmarked for the new centre had not been confirmed yet. However, last week, the chairman was informed that the Gozo Ministry and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority were working on the project.

In the meantime, the SPCA is still picking up abandoned and injured cats and kittens; it is also attending to ill and injured dogs, but is not picking up healthy strays dues to lack of accommodation.
