PL not holding personal data - Commissioner
The Data Protection Commissioner has decided that the Labour Party is not keeping any personal information about ordinary people in contravention of the Data Protection Act.
The decision was taken following a complaint by PN General Secretary Paul Borg Olivier, who complained in December 2008 over information gleaned during house visits.
The Commissioner said he first wrote to then PL General Secretary Jason Micallef in March 2009 for his reaction to the PN claims.
Since his reply was not clear, he wrote again in August seeking further clarifications from Mr Micallef, who did not reply. He then wrote to party president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, who by this time was also acting general secretary, and also received no reply. Eventually he wrote to party leader Joseph Muscat last February. Dr Zrinzo Azzopardi replied later that month.
A technical inspection of the data processing system of the PL was held in April.
The Commissioner, John Ebejer, said it had been established that no personal or sensitive data on individuals was being kept by the Labour Party in violation of the law.

Lol ignorance is bliss... The inspection should have been carried out immediately... but then again why should we remove all the bureaucratic jargon?

What a stark contrast with what the data protection commissioner said last december about the PN's plan revealed in an e-mail which Paul Borg Olivier mistakenly sent to then PL General Secretary Jason Micallef instead of Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi.
Last December the data protection commissioner warned that there would have been serious consequences on the right to privacy of individuals had Borg Olivier's plan been implemented for the transmission to a central source in the Office of the Prime Minister, of the personal information of those people who complained to ministries or parliamentary secretariats.
Where is Dr Borg Olivier ? Any clues please ?

Few months ago a young lady nocked at my door and politly she asked me if I want to participate in a questioneer regarding the cost of living and many other matters. One of the questions was if I was a leftist or right wing supporter?
Can such questions be made during these questioeers?

@ B Borg. veru li kien hemm tul ta zmien fl-investigazzjoni u jidher li tort tat tnejn , ghax damu hafna ma irrisponendew lil xulxin, imma il-PL ma iddejjaq xejn li-Kummissarju tad-Data jisspjezzjona is-sistema li juza

Ma kienx hemm flus il-poplu fin-nofs jew tixħim. Min ħallas għal din l-inkjesta? Il-PN li talabha jew aħna mit-taxxa tagħna? Il-kummissarju tajjeb li jwieġeb jekk il-PN intalabx flus tal-ispejjeż tal-inkjesta. Is this another flop by PBO.

It took the commisioner 18 months to get an answer. A lot could have happened during that period!!!

How about a similar investigation into the PN data storage methods?

Mr. Mizzi I think if investigation will be carried out, they won’t find any data. Data will be utilized on Friday and Saturday before general election. As they say things can be hidden in plain sight! Then after election result they will destroy and collect new one from entities to use in 5 years time, so they will make new promises that are easy to make but hard to deliver.
