Italian President Giorgio Napoletano starts a two-day state visit to Malta on June 30.

A spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry said he would hold talks with President George Abela, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Foreign Minister Tonio Borg. He will also attend a state dinner.

Talks were expected to focus mainly on relations between the two countries and issues such as illegal immigration and EU matters, the spokesman said.

The last Italian President to visit Malta officially was of Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in May 2005.
