A motion by House Public Accounts Committee chairman Charles Mangion - for the Auditor-General to investigate the contracts on the conversion of the Fairmount Fjord and the Fairmount Fjell - was defeated by five votes to two during a meeting yesterday.

The motion also called for the auditor to investigate the role of supervisory authorities in contracts to be paid from public funds.

Minister Austin Gatt said the motion was, at best divisive because as a general rule the committee took decision by consensus.
