I consider myself to be civic-minded. I try hard to be an exemplary citizen. As a Kappara resident, I take particular pride and interest in the goings-on in my locality. If I feel disturbed by the negative effects of a project planned for my area, I exercise my right to speak out and ask lots of whys and wherefores, especially when I am convinced that other better-studied solutions are possible.

The article on Kappara residents' resentment at the announced elevated junction - a euphemism for "flyover" - at the "Palm Tree Oasis" roundabout (May 25) stirred up a bloggers' hornet's nest, with a number of negative commentators, however, vying with each other as to who can come up with the most poisonous barb to shoot at us residents.

Because Kappara residents are speaking out, a few bloggers hissed that we are not to make ourselves to be "holy gods", also seeing that our part of the world has "no natural beauty" whatsoever. Hark and listen, all you out there: for they the lordly know it all...

It does matter to me as a Kappara resident that the project as announced will endanger my own and my family's health. But those nervy bloggers fume only at the thought that they might have to spend more minutes to clear the Kappara roundabout in their cars. Stop and ponder, for they are holier-than-thou...

It is important for me to argue vehemently against the concept that, many moons ago, some "expert" had unilaterally decided of a flyover as the only solution to the traffic congestion at the Kappara roundabout. For the edgy bloggers this is neither here nor there: they will not have any consultations delaying the project further. Keep it in mind, dear readers, that they want you to take it from them, and never from us ...

It goes without saying that I ask questions, wait for answers, and then respond in a spirit of frank discussion to air it all out.

But no, some of those angry bloggers maintain Kappara residents should not have such special privileges. Ponder well, you who read this, for they, the sanctimonious are always one step ahead of us all...

It certainly matters to me that traffic rules and regulations are blatantly breached at the Kappara roundabout and all along Mikiel Anton Vassalli Road by careless drivers and veritable road hogs alike, every moment of every day of the week, contributing to the traffic jams and horrendous pollution of nose and noise. Yet the fretting bloggers, rather than clamouring for law enforcement, shout out more loudly: "A flyover, a flyover!" Pay attention and listen to them, for they are the only ones who are honest and equitable...

I do care that the flaming Kappara sun rising in the East might one day be blotted out by a man-made Europe-funded monstrosity ostensibly created to "ease the traffic flow". But those bloggers out there do not want any of that: put up windbreakers and have some decorative landscaping, and there you are, they shout. Indeed, they know it better than all of us...

"Give out the chisels and hand out the hammers. Get going with your brainy ideas," they spitefully plaint in chorus. Let's face it, do they really care that we Kappara residents incessantly wave about records of the soaring noise pollution levels in our locality, or hopelessly look on at the consistent contamination of our environment, or disappointingly open our letter-boxes to find them bare of any consultation documents, or persistently ask - an appeal taken up by other more discerning bloggers, incidentally - for healthier, more effective and cheaper alternatives to be considered? Oh, what a caper ...
