Last weekend, Marsa played against returning cricket team Royal Horse Artillery who are on their third tour to Malta.

On Saturday, the Marsa team won the toss and elected to bat in the 40-over game. The Marsa team were in a spin, losing seven wickets for 53 runs in 22 overs bowled.

Luke Turrell exploited the windy conditions brilliantly, capturing four wickets and Belfon taking two. The other wicket was the run out of Malcolm Crabbe who made 14 runs.

Next high score to that stage was Mark G. Sacco who had made 10 runs, the other scores being of five and under.

A match-saving partnership came from Mike Caruana and John Grima. The tandem was worth 83 runs. Caruana made 46 runs not out including four fours while Grima made 22 runs not out.

The Marsa side totalled 136 runs.

The RHA chased hard but fell short by 26 runs. Turrell capped his bowling by top scoring for his side with 26 runs. Belfon also did well making 24 runs. Hall batted well for 14 runs.

Derek Ali was the main wicket taker with three while Nowell Khosla, Sam Dhandapani and Mike Caruana all took two.

Anthony Slater chipped in with one wicket. One nil to Marsa.

Marsa dedicated their win to Peter Pask, a long-time follower of Maltese cricket, who passed away last week.

On Sunday, the Marsa team batted first again in a rain-affected game was reduced to 30 overs.

Marsa totalled 161 runs with Andy Naudi top scoring with a fine 88 runs, including six fours and a six.

Joy Ghoseroy scored 31 runs and Ronnie Sacco made 26. Belfon was again taking wickets, this time two, while Polius and Turrell took a wicket each.

The RHA started the run chase well with Searle scoring 26 runs and Tom Major making 15 runs.

The rest of the batting order tried to make quick runs but paid the price of their wicket. The visitors totalled 80 runs.

For Marsa, the main wicket takers were Chris Munroe and Will Nicholls who took three each. Darren Grech took two wickets and Richard Rogers one.

Andy Lenard was the talk of team as he effected a brilliant catch to dismiss Longbottom as Marsa took a 2-0 lead.

The third and final game of the series will be played tomorrow, starting at 3.30 p.m.
