A packed calendar of events, organised annually by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club, will get underway on June 7, with the first two-kilometre swim valid for the 2010 Open Water Swimming Series.
Every year, Birkirkara SJ organise a series of open sea swims, including the Gozo-Malta Challenge.
The club's calendar of sport also caters for a five-kilometre road running series, sprint distance triathlons (four in all) and a cycling individual time-trial on the Salina Coast Road route on July 4.
All events are held under the auspices of the relative national federations.
Following the success it has been achieving over the past few years in open water swimming, the club this year will be introducing the challenging Malta-Gozo-Malta race.
The 2010 Open Water Swimming Series consists of five two-kilometre races and another race over four kilometres.
A number of races from this series are qualifiers for both the Gozo-Malta race and the Malta-Gozo-Malta Challenge.
The events will be held on June 7 (2K), June 23 (2K), July 7 (2K), July 21 (2K), August 4 (4K), August 21 (Malta-Gozo-Malta and Gozo-Malta), and September 1 (2K).
The running series is held over four events on the Mtarfa By-Pass.
