The Kilimanjaro Challenge 6 (KC6) expedition will be leaving for Tanzania in East Africa in October, in an attempt to scale Mount Kilimanjaro. At just under 20,000 feet, the mountain is Africa's highest peak and the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

The team, currently 15-strong, ranges from university students to a father who recently celebrated his 50th birthday.

The aim of the climb is to collect funds for the construction of a medical clinic in the Ethiopian village of Karro. The project will cost approximately €53,000 and will cater for the medical needs of 10,000 families.

KC6 will be hosting several fundraisers throughout the summer, including a boat party, a game on university grounds dubbed 'Assassin', and a five-a-side football tournament at Luxol on June 7.

More details are available at www.kilichallenge.com and on the Facebook group 'Kilimanjaro Challenge 6'.

Previous expeditions up the mountain over the last four years have raised over €250,000 for other life-saving projects involving children in both Kenya and Ethiopia.
