A Gozitan fanatic of Apple products found his way into the Guinness Book of World Records after becoming the fastest person to type the alphabet on Apple's latest product, the iPad.

Joseph Grech typed the letters from A to Z in 6.61 seconds while queuing outside the Apple Store from 3 a.m. on Friday morning in London, where he has lived for the past seven years.

The 28-year-old business consultant, originally from Victoria, was among hundreds of people who queued outside the store, to be among the first to buy the new gadget.

"I am quite impatient and it gives me a sense of accomplishment to be one of the first to use the product," he told The Sunday Times.

"It's like a community, we talked about our expectations and which applications we were going to use."

Mr Grech said he was one of the first to take up the challenge and attempt to set a world record, and no matter how many people tried to beat him, none succeeded.

He believes that it was his experience of constantly tapping away on his iPhone that made him so fast.

Mr Grech has tried almost all of Apple's products and currently owns an iMac, a Macbook, an iPhone, an iPad and an iPod.

"When a new product comes out I sell the old version and get the new one. I've been through 10 iPods I think." He said he was happy with his new iPad but joked he would have liked Guinness World Records to pay for it since he won the challenge.

Instead, he will have to be satisfied with his name in the world-famous book as well as a personalised certificate.
