I follow with interest the way information is given by Maltese newspapers and the importance they give to particular stories. An editor's priorities in the handling of news gives an idea of that newspaper's 'colour'.

The Sunday Times of May 23, for example, carried a front-page story on the Leader of the Opposition turning up late for his flight to Australia.

Had we been living in boring times, and in a place like Switzerland, where everything works like clockwork, this would have been the ideal story. But times are far from boring, and it seems that nothing is working properly in this country.

In a week marked by the controversy surrounding the BWSC power station contract and the police investigation into alleged corruption in a privatisation process, we were looking forward to some serious investigative journalism.

So, as a reader of The Times and The Sunday Times, I must express my disappointment that, in their priorities of news presentation, these newspapers are showing their true colours.
