Hilton Malta has been awarded the EU Eco-Label and the nationally-recognised Eco-Certification awarded by the Malta Tourism Authority Green Committee for its efforts in introducing and upgrading systems that minimise the large amounts of rubbish that would end up in the landfill.

Since joining Greenpak's Hotel Waste Recovery Scheme, the hotel has diverted an estimated 12 tonnes of glass, two tonnes of plastic, 800 kg tonnes of metal and eight tonnes of cardboard from the landfill.

From last April, hotels are being charged €20 per tonne of rubbish that they send to landfill.

In operation since 2004, Greenpak collects hotels' waste and sends it to a Malta Environment and Planning Authority approved facility for recycling.

Hilton Malta has invested in water conservation and reuse measures and encourages guests to act responsibly by conserving resources during their stay.

Waste separation does not take much time. Employees are trained to dispose waste in labelled bins.
