About a month ago, on April 28, I wrote to the St Julians local council complaining about the terrible state of Elia Zammit Street in Paceville.
I enclosed a photo, showing parking spaces blocked with concrete blocks by the contractor working on the land adjacent to the road. There is a torn paper stuck to the wall saying that there is no parking on a particular day in January(!), but that's it.
I also pointed out that there is a person who regularly parks on the taxi stand with a white car (not a taxi) offering rides. I have even seen this car parked there with a warden a couple of metres away from it, and the warden wasn't doing anything about it. I didn't mention it, but another eyesore in this road is the monument near the public latrine, which seems to have assumed the function of a latrine itself.
My e-mail elicited no reply, so on May 3 I sent a second copy to the same e-mail address, and another on May 4 with a CC to The Times. This one did elicit some form of reply. My e-mail of the 28th was forwarded by the Sliema Joint Committee to the St Julians Police, dated May 5, though the e-mail, which was CCed to me, actually came through on the 13th.
I visit Elia Zammit Street quite regularly, and so far nothing has been done about the state of affairs. Are there no standards that should be adhered to in these cases? Does someone need to get injured before any action is taken?
