A Valletta resident who this morning pleaded guilty to theft and holding up two elderly women was given a two-year jail term suspended for four years. His partner was placed under probation for three years.

Jeffrey Attard, 29, was charged with holding 71-year-old Clothilde Mifsud and 56-year-old Marian Caruana in Merchants Street, Valletta and stealing less than €20 from them last week. He also admitted to using a pen knife to intimidate them.

He was also charged with stealing under €200 worth soft drinks.

Daniela Nappa, 25, pleaded guilty to conspiracy.
