The Armed Forces of Malta is taking part in a training programme by the German Navy as several of their personnel qualified as rescuers after a similar course by the Italian Military Mission.

The German exercises are aimed at increasing interoperability between the two forces and, while no flight operations were conducted, discussions were held on flight operations and procedures, communications and, above all, safety.

Meanwhile, student rescuers were able, during the Italian course's various simulations in flight, to familiarise themselves with the equipment and systems available.

The AFM last year carried out 12 rescues, more than 60 search flights and ferried numerous injured seamen and anglers from vessels in Malta's search and rescue region.
