A long-standing argument which exploded in the early hours of Monday landed a teenager in court yesterday charged with seriously injuring another. Jean Pierre Caruana, 19, of San Ġwann was accused of stabbing Darren Galea with a knife during a fight in Valletta.
Mr Galea is expected to be arraigned over the same incident in the coming days.
Police sources said the fight followed a long-standing argument which, although having erupted once before, never became as serious as this.
Mr Caruana, who was accompanied by his parents and siblings, stood in court with injuries to his face and pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring Mr Galea, being in possession of a knife and breaching the peace. Defence lawyers Gianella Caruana Curran, Joseph Giglio and Steve Tonna Lowell asked for bail.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano granted Mr Caruana bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €2,000. The accused was also ordered not to enter Valletta unless to attend court or see his lawyers.
