Foreign Minister Tonio Borg yesterday confirmed that New Delhi police were investigating the involvement of Indian citizens in the acquirement of visas, some of which from the Maltese High Commission, through the use of false documents.

Answering a parliamentary question by Leo Brincat (PL), Minister Borg said his ministry had sought to ascertain that there were no Maltese or foreign employees of the High Commission involved.

The Malta Police had been asked to investigate after the ministry's Permanent Secretariat had gathered all possible information.

The Central Visa Unit was investigating if there were any procedural shortcomings to determine if disciplinary steps were called for, independently of the police investigations.

Minister Borg assured Mr Brincat that no such investigations were under way in the Maltese Embassy at Beijing.
