The World famous Manneken Pis statue in Brussels is to be dressed up as a Knight of Malta in a marketing event on June 19.

The activity is being held on the initiative of the Maltese Embassy to Brussels and the Maltese Representation to the EU.

Manneken Pis means ‘Little peeing boy’:

The small statue in the heart of Brussels is one of the main attractions of the Belgian capital and has been dressed up for various marketing events before. It has a wardrobe of over 600 costumes to mark special events.

The origin of the statue is shrouded in history but it is known to have existed in the 15th century. In 1619 sculptor Jerome Duquesnoy was commissioned to make the current bronze statue to replace an old one.

It is said that the boy urinated to save the city from fire.

The 'boy' will wear the Knight of Malta costume for a few days.
