The police said the incident happened at about 5.30 p.m.

The man was pulled out of the sea by passers by. He was rushed to hospital, where his condition this evening was found to be critical.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano is holding an inquiry.

The dog is being cared for by animal welfare officers.
