The third season of the popular German TV series Ihr Auftrag, Pater Castell, kicked off with episode filmed in Malta.

The detective series attracts more than 4 million viewers per episode. It is based on novels written by famous author Dan Brown.

Leading national public German TV station ZDF launched the third season of the series on May 13 with an epsiode Die Jesustafel (the INRI tablet), filmed in Malta last November, mainly in the picturesque Valletta and Cottonera areas.

The leading part of Father Simon Castell is played by popular German-British actor Francis Fulton-Smith. Father Castell is commissioned by the Vatican to unravel particularly difficult, thrilling mysteries and criminal cases related to the church and its valuable sanctuaries.

In an interview with ZDF VIP programme “Leute heute” recorded in November in Malta, actor Francis Fulton-Smith said that he had extremely enjoyed filming in Malta and even tried to learn a bit of Maltese from the Maltese film crew members.

The Malta Tourism Authority’s German office supported a renowned VIP photographer to accompany Mr Fulton-Smith during the film shooting so that the actor’s stay in Malta would also be featured in German magazines.
