Allegations by the Malta Union of Bank Employees on mismanagement of workplace bullying by Bank of Valletta employees have been denied by the bank.

In a statement, the bank said MUBE's allegations contained a number of inaccuracies and were greatly misleading.

Chief executive officer Tonio Depasquale insisted that the bank adopted a zero tolerance approach towards bullying and harassment at the place of work and ahdalways been committed to address all such reported cases.

He said that, unfortunately, the approach adopted by MUBE in this instance could only tarnish the bank's reputation as a role model employer and did not help to support the excellent and healthy relationship that existed between the bank and its employees.

MUBE yesterday accused the bank's management of remaining passive on investigations relating to alleged cases of bullying and said the director of employment and human relations has now ordered an investigation.

The union accused the bank of not taking action when an employee claimed that he was being bullied by a colleague who unilaterally decided to claim “managerial status” and by his superior.
