Can somebody confirm what I was recently told by a government employee, that a replacement cheque of a stopped cheque will only be issued when the date of the original cheque has expired - that is six months after the original date? I have never heard...

Can somebody confirm what I was recently told by a government employee, that a replacement cheque of a stopped cheque will only be issued when the date of the original cheque has expired - that is six months after the original date?

I have never heard of anything so absurd. (And I'm an ex-banker.)
