Sensei Xerri to conduct one-day Aikido seminar

Chicko Xerri, an Australian of Maltese descent, will be in Malta this week to conduct a one-day seminar hosted by the Aikido Yamato Dojo, in Ħamrun.

Sensei Xerri's visit will be part of a world tour during which he will meet, teach and share Aikido techniques and experience with other students and masters in Australia, Europe and Japan.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that focuses on the development of a harmonious, co-operative spirit. Aikido students are taught a powerful system of self-defence and does not utilise kicks and punches.

Sensei Xerri has been studying and teaching Aikido for 36 years. He is a long-time member of the Aikido Kenkyukai International network.

Sensei Xerri set up his own dojo, the Fudoshin Dojo, in the Sunshine Coast in 1984. He lives and instructs Aikido in Noosa Heads.

The martial arts activity promises to provide an interesting perspective to local Aikidoka as Sensei Xerri's focus is influenced mainly by the use of weapons.

This will be Sensei Xerri's second seminar with the Yamato Dojo after the one of 2007.

The seminar, at the Maria Assumpta Girls Secondary School, will be held on Saturday between 9 and 11 a.m. and 4.30 and 6.30 p.m.
