Hacking of beautiful trees in the city

I just cannot believe what is happening to the beautiful trees that adorn our capital city. I think it is an insult if ELC are calling their work pruning - it is nothing more than hacking recklessly at branches to an extent that hardly any branches with leaves are left. To be doing this so close to the summer is ludicrous as the natural shade that such trees could have provided has disappeared.

I felt ashamed walking through Valletta with some visiting foreign friends with a gardening background; one commented: Has Edward Scissorhands been let loose?

Malta's trees are suffering at the hands of people whose performance is an insult to gardening; I do not wish to be totally negative as of course other than the pruning ELC are doing a fantastic job with roundabouts, verges and public gardens.

So please ELC, before it is too late, think before you let anyone loose with a chainsaw! We just cannot afford to lose established trees. Already so many have been dug up in Valletta with the excuse of exposing historical buildings. I implore the mayor to take this issue in hand.
