Vacant site in St Andrew's

With reference to the letter by the Swieqi local council's executive secretary Hugh Zammit (Credit For Swieqi Council's Performance, May 17), in reply to my previous letter mentioning private property lying in disuse, may I remind readers and residents that according to Malta Environment and Planning Authority news posted on its website on March 6, 2007, Mepa and locals councils were addressing the environmental and safety impact of vacant sites.

It was stated that these vacant properties have a negative impact and render an area unsightly and potentially hazardous, so local councils shall advise Mepa to issue an enforcement notice.

The council has now declared that this vacant site, lying as it does on an arterial road, and therefore I understand our property too, fall within the responsibility of the central government. I thank them for the clarification.
